Which hypervisor examples are Type 2 hypervisors?

Type 2 hypervisors, also known as hosted hypervisors, operate on top of an existing operating system. This means they rely on the host OS for resources and management. Examples of Type 2 hypervisors include Oracle VM VirtualBox and VMware Workstation, both of which are designed to run as applications within a host operating system, allowing users to create and manage virtual machines without needing to reboot into a dedicated hypervisor environment.

In contrast, Type 1 hypervisors, such as VMware ESXi and Hyper-V, run directly on the hardware without an intervening host OS, providing more efficient access to physical resources.
